Love is in the Air

Last night I attended my cousin’s engagement party. Despite having had a long and exhausted week, I was excited to get out and party a little bit! So I thought I’d talk you through my outfit and makeup.

My denim jacket is from Jay Jays (you can find it here), my black dress is from Kmart (I couldn’t find a link, but I know it’s still available in my local store) and my red heels are from Target (they were on sale so I don’t know if they’d still be available.

I loved this outfit! The jacket was brand new, having just bought it that day, and the excuse to wear it was great. I felt like the outfit was an appropriate mix of dressy while not being over the top. This outfit also makes me feel super sexy, which is always a plus!

photo (4)My makeup mess of the night features some of my old favourites, like my Australis Pressed PowderRimmel Scandaleyes Eye Shadow Stick and Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in ‘Temptation’, and new favourites like my RealTechniques Expert Face Brush and Chi Chi Fabulous & Flawless foundation.

The finished look was simple: flawless coverage, gold eyes and a red lip. The look lasted all night and even though I was eating I only had to reapply my lipstick once.

My perfume of the night was Christina Aguilera’s ‘Royal Desire’. This has been a favourite of mine for a long time!

photo (3) I brought with me my Kate Hill wallet with the essentials (phone, money, lipstick, ID) to go with the red accessory theme.

I had also wanted to paint my nails red, but the polish I bought was more of an orange-y red and I did a shotty job of painting them, so I took it off!

All in all it was a great night. I got to spend time with my family and my gorgeous boyfriend. I’m so excited for my cousin and his fiancee, they are so happy together and I’m such a sucker for a little bit of romance!

And to finish off, here are some oh so sexy, incredibly well lit selfies. Thanks for the read! x

Neutrogena vs Mary Kay

aka ‘How Much Should I Spend On My Skincare?’

I’ve always been very lucky with my skin. It’s been very ‘normal’, with only the occasional breakout that I can relate to hormones or my poor diet choice (I eat waaaaay too much chocolate!). Since going on the pill a few months ago, my skin has become a little more oily (but since that has been the only side effect, I’m not particularly fussed). My skin is quite sensitive, and reacts badly to any product that is overly scented. Some products have caused my chin to break out in a rash and, as I’m sure you could assume, I never use the product again!

I’ve never really gone in for a huge skincare routine. It usually involves a cleanser, an exfoliating scrub and a moisturiser; and my previous criteria was simply ‘does it irritate my skin?’ If the answer was ‘no’, I was happy to use it.

A few months ago, one of my closest friends invited me to a Mary Kay make-up party. I’d never been to one before, but since it involved the word ‘make-up’ there was no way that I wasn’t going to be there! Following that night, I got a little bit hooked, and hosted my own. At that party, I purchased the TimeWise 3-in-1 Cleanser and the TimeWise Age-Fighting Moisturizer, both for Combination to Oily skin.

I also received some free Neutrogena products when I subscribed to Cosmopolitan Magazine a few weeks ago (oh how I love freebies!). This included the Deep Clean Shine Control Scrub, the Deep Clean Facial Cleanser and the Comboskin Moisturiser.

Having used both brands for at least a week each, I can safely say that they both ‘get the job done’. My skin is left feeling clear, clean and soft. They both keep my oiliness in check, and did not cause an increased amount of breakouts.

Since they work the same way, I’ve been comparing the little details. For example, I am obsessed with the way that the Neutrogena cleanser smells! I also love the practically of the Mary Kay cleanser. It is a combination cleanser, exfoliator and toner, and I love being able to keep just one container in the shower.

So, both brands do the job, and each product has some great features. What is it then that is the deciding factor? The price!! The Mary Kay products come in a set for $85. The three Neutrogena products can be picked up for just over $40. I had thought that since I was paying so much money for the Mary Kay products that I would see some incredible results. But I haven’t, so I can’t say I will be repurchasing them. I will definitely be repurchasing the Neutrogena cleanser, and probably the scrub and moisturiser too.

And that’s all I have to say for today. I feel like I was a little all over the place with this one, so I hope I was still able to get my point across! xx

Back to Uni – OOTD

Today was my first day of my second semester at University. After having 9 weeks off (that’s right, 9!!) I was actually kind of excited to go back. After struggling through my first semester, I now know what to expect; and feel like I have a much better perspective on how to handle these next 12 weeks. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about. I’m here to share with you my Outfit and Makeup of today.

I’m a big believer in being warm and comfortable not only at Uni, but in general. And since Melbourne is known for being unpredictable, I figured I better rug up! My one regret with today’s outfit was that I didn’t wear a scarf. And my neck certainly got cold!

Grey Coat (Size 10 – Jay Jays), Boyfriend Style Black T-shirt (Small – Jay Jays), Blue Skinny Jeans (Size 9 – Jay Jays), Boots (Size 10 – Kmart)

A side note: The fact that most of my clothes are from Jay Jays is because I work there, and I enjoy getting 50% off my clothes!

As far as make-up goes, I’m not one to leave the house without makeup on; but I tend to opt for a simple and classic look for University. Today my one disappointment was my eyeliner. It was the age old struggle: one eye looking fantastic, the other a hot mess. Sigh. There’s always tomorrow.

Mary Kay Foundation Primer, Chi Chi Fabulous and Flawless Foundation, Rimmel Hide The Blemish Concealer, Australis Pressed Powder, Australis Blush BFFs (Hotties & Secrets), Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil (Black Fever), Mary Kay Brow Definer Pencil (Blonde), Maybelline Color Tattoo (Bad to the Bronze), Chi Chi Bases Palette and Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick (Guest List).

Another side note: There’s no mascara here. If anyone is interested in a blog post as to why that is, let me know!

And that’s all for today! Any other Aussie’s start back today? Already I’m questioning why I was excited to go back haha.

Thanks for reading xx

Ready, Set, Blog!

Hello there and welcome to my blog!

This isn’t the first time I’ve tried writing a blog. I’ve done this before (and relatively unsuccessfully). But I’m hoping to do it differently this time. I love to write, and if I’m passionate about something I can get fired up pretty quickly! So here you will find rants, reviews and random thoughts about my life and the important things in it. Maybe I’ll talk about my latest makeup haul, or review a new product. Maybe the media student in me will talk about the movie I saw the other night. Perhaps you’ll hear about my boyfriend, my family, my friends, or something that’s driving me crazy! I hope you’ll find something that interests you, and maybe even makes you smile.

On another note, you can follow me on bloglovin’: Follow my blog with Bloglovin

So, I hope you decide to come back and that we get to know more about eachother! If you’re curious enough, you can learn more about me here.
